The Answer to a Commonly Asked Question: How do You Do It All?

I learned at a very young age that this life can be SHORT.  It is far too short to be unhappy.  So, you have 2 choices:  You roll with the punches and be happy-ish, or you find a way to maximize moments of each day to work toward your goals and dreams.

People ask me all the time, “How do you find time to do it all?”

I am a mama to Ziggy, the busiest 2 year old I know, wife to Chris.  We work opposite schedules, so are single parents the majority of the time.  We own a home that involves what seems like never ending projects.  I work full time as a first grade teacher.  I coach an average of 12 people per month as they embark or continue their health and fitness journeys, and lead a team of 27+ active coaches, who are on a mission to do the same.  I workout for at least 30 minutes every day.  I plan, shop for and cook our meals weekly.  And, I document it all with pictures and words.

Here's the thing:  We all have the same amount of time available to us in a day.  It's how we choose to use it.

Assuming we spend:

-40 hours for our full-time job
-56 hours of sleep (8/day if we're lucky)
-15 hours of commuting/getting ready for work/overtime
-6 hours of working out (1 hr/day 6 days/week)

That leaves us 51 hours of FREE TIME!

So, I may not be up on the latest Netflix series, or know what the weather is going to be tomorrow.  I may have dust bunnies and cheerios in the corners of each room, and a sink full of dirty dishes.  I never style my hair...ever.  And it may mean I need to wake up earlier than I want to, or stay up a little bit later than I’d like.

But you know what?    It’s okay.  Because I am using those hidden minutes to ultimately make my life less busy. I am working each day to build my family's future. And I am working on myself along the way.  I am working to be stronger and more balanced, and mentoring others as they do the same.  I am working to be the best mama and role model I can be to my little boy.  I am working towards my optimal life balance.  And I am totally willing to make short term sacrifices for long term gains.

When you want something bad enough, and have a strong enough reason WHY, you do anything to achieve it.  Sometimes you just need to dig deep to find it.

You know those things you've always wanted in this life?  You should go work toward them.  It can be done by committing ONE hour a day.
